Jammu, July 29:
A major tragedy was averted even as a dilapidated portion of an old house collapsed in Malhotra locality of the city on Wednesday morning.
Fortunately, at around 8 am, when this 80-year-old building collapsed like a deck of cards. There was less movement of people in the street.
The building collapsed, leaving the six-foot-wide street closed with debris.
People living nearby came out of the houses. Police rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control. The police stopped the movement so that there was no danger.
After receiving information about the accident. The team of JMC reached the spot. They immediately started the process of clearing the debris.
Reacting to the matter, Municipal Corporation Dy Commissioner Sanjay Badyal clarified that the relief work is being completed at a fast pace.
The old building was being used as a godown, he said. The entire cost of this campaign will be deposited in the account of the concerned landlord.
